As entertaining as professional wrestling is, there are times when events are dreadfully predictable. You know what is going to happen before the match even starts. However, this past week on ECW the #1 contender battle royal was anything but predictable. The predictable outcome would have been Ezekiel Jackson or Vladmir Kozlov winning in order to continue the Christian & Dreamer/Regal’s Roundtable feud. Another predictable outcome would have been Tommy Dreamer winning leading to William Regal protesting the following week that Dreamer has already had a title opportunity against Christian.
To my surprise, and probably the surprise of many, Zack Ryder won the #1 contender battle royal. Zack Ryder seems to be an off the wall choice to receive an ECW Title match. His victory completely shocked me but at the same time intrigued me. I am very interested to find out when the title match will happen and how the bout will play out. Will Zack Ryder get his title shot on an episode of ECW or at the Hell in a Cell PPV? A title match at Hell in a Cell would be the biggest match in Zack Ryder’s career.
While I continue to have a lack of interest in the other WWE brands, I must say kudos to the ECW bookers. Zack Ryder’s battle royal victory has caught my attention.
