The Extreme Winners
The eliminations for the 14th Summer X Games began July 31st in L.A and it’s been huge. The BMX Street Finals saw Garrett Reynolds take gold from stiff competition in the form of Von Homan and Sean Sexton.
From the official X Games site -
“Garrett barspun gapped-to-icepicked down a ledge, Van Homan manualed to double tired down the main rail, manualed the rail and even tailwhip over the rail! Kachinsky fired out a nollie to toothpick hangover down the rail and it turned into pure chaos with a jam style format and guys charging it one after another. It was so entertaining to watch. In the end, Garrett took the Gold, Van Homan took Silver and Sean Sexton took Bronze. “
The Skateboard Big Air Finals were just as hardcore, with Bob Burnquist taking the top medal. From the official X games site -
“He floated the switch backside 180 and a backside 360, coming into the wall of doom to fakie. The crowd went wild again. Bob rolled back up the wedge, arms extended into the air.”
Again it was a fierce line up of contenders and Danny Way in particular shone. After a dramatic crash early on he came back in Big air style. From the official X Games site -
“Out of a massive backflip across the kicker, he boosted a 19-foot McTwist straight to his shins and did the most violent penny drop I've ever seen, landing on his back. Way got up slowly, took a 10 minute "one of the gnarliest slams I've ever seen" break and came back out. At one point, a media lady asked him how he was doing and Way said, "I'm pretty sure my foot's broken." Just the words made me feel like less of a man as he climbed up to the roll-in.”
Onto the Moto X Best Trick final. In typical fashion featuring gnarly stunts that left the crowd questioning what they had just witnessed. The first of the medals awarded at this years event went to Kyle Loza when asked to sum up the win he said: "My parents are here so I can't really do that"…After thinking about it one more time around, he responded with "cool." Ya, I'd have to say that being the first rider in history to win back-to-back gold medals in X Games Best Trick is definitely "cool."
Here are the top 3 Moto X Riders:
Gold: Kyle Loza—75' Electric Doom
Silver: Jeremy Lusk—75' Double Grab Backflip
Bronze: Todd Potter—75' Ruler Flip
