WWE versus World Title

I want to use this post to air a pet peeve I have had for years now. My pet peeve is with the WWE having two major titles- the WWE Championship and the World Championship. Back in the 1990s the WWE Title was THE belt for the WWE. There were other heavyweight titles out there but everyone knew the WWE Title was the real heavyweight title. When Vince McMahon purchased WCW he kept the WCW Title around for a little bit before eventually combining the WWE Title and WCW Title into the Undisputed Championship.
When the brand split occurred the Undisputed Champion appeared on both Raw and Smackdown. However, eventually Smackdown “signed” the Undisputed Champion, Brock Lesnar, to an exclusive contract. Raw GM Eric Bischoff “reacted” by giving Triple H a belt and calling him the World Champion. Soon the Undisputed Title became the WWE Title and both the WWE and World Titles were recognized as credible heavyweight championships.
The only problem with this is there is no credibility in having two heavyweight championships. The heavyweight champion is supposed to be a promotion’s #1 wrestler and there can only be one #1 guy. Even with the brand split, two heavyweight titles don’t work because the brands all belong to the WWE Universe and there can only be one #1 guy.
I think the proper solution is to have a title unification match to bring back the Undisputed Championship. The Undisputed Champion would accept challengers from both Raw and Smackdown. I believe this one change would do the WWE lots of good. So, WWE do yourself a favor and unify the WWE and World Titles!
