On December 1st WWE.com’s Michael Burdick teased a WWE Championship redesign with his article “Bring It Back!: ANY Classic WWE Title that’s Not the Spinner.” In the article Burdick discusses old WWE title designs which could come out of retirement and replace the current WWE Championship. The writer also gains insights about the current WWE Title design from current WWE Champion CM Punk and former WWE Champions John Cena and The Miz.
For those unfamiliar with the origins of the current championship’s design, the look came into play after John Cena won the prize around five years ago. The championship fit his now long gone freestyle rapper personality. Yet even though Cena’s character experienced an evolution, the WWE Title spinner appearance remained. The Miz best pinpoints the problem with the current WWE Championship when he stated “It (WWE Title) needs to look less like a toy and more like a title.”
Now WWE.com’s teasing about redesigning the WWE Title doesn’t exactly mean we will see a new version of the WWE Championship anytime soon. After all awhile back WWE.com published a similar article looking at bringing back the Hardcore Title, a seemingly unlikely scenario. Hopefully though, the WWE Championship will see a makeover soon.
