After watching ECW the past two weeks I can’t help but wonder- does the ECW brand have too much talent? The talent initiative brought ECW Sheamus, Abraham Washington, Yoshi Tatsu, Tyler Reks, and Ezekiel Jackson. ECW also gained veterans Goldust, Shelton Benjamin and William Regal in last month’s blockbuster 15 man trade. Plus ECW still has Zack Ryder, Paul Burchill, Vladmir Kozlov, Christian, and Tommy Dreamer. Plus there are the Bella Twins and The Hurricane.
My initial concern about the amount of talent ECW has comes from the fact Yoshi Tatsu has not been seen on ECW for two weeks straight now. On commentary last night Matt Striker said all the buzz is about Sheamus but the truth is the buzz is about Yoshi Tatsu. Sheamus gets next to no reaction from the live audience compared to Yoshi Tatsu. Tatsu lights up the crowds and has a unique style in the ring. The fact Yoshi hasn’t been seen on ECW for two straight weeks is criminal.
Another wrestler being criminally underused is William Regal. Regal should be featured on ECW every week wrestling the younger stars or interjecting himself into the title picture. Hopefully with Christian successfully defending his title last night against Tommy Dreamer we will see Regal step up to feud with the ECW Champion next.
I think part of the problem is there are unneeded personalities on ECW. For example what purpose do the Bella Twins have? Switch them over to Raw or Smackdown and use the Bella Twins airtime for wrestler’s promo. Then there is Abraham Washington. Is the guy ever going to wrestle? If not get rid of him and his stupid show and add another match to the broadcast. ECW does have some tremendous talents and it is unfortunate they are not getting a chance to showcase their ability on a weekly basis.
