Rumors have run wild across the Internet speculating TNA Wrestling looks to rebrand. This rebranding involves renaming the company iMPACT! Wrestling. The credibility behind these rumors increased when Hulk Hogan recently tweeted “No TNA. Only IMPACT.” The speculated name change creates mixed feelings amongst fans. Some like the idea while others don’t.
Personally, I’m against the possible renaming. The main criticism for the name “TNA Wrestling” stems from the female anatomy pun. As a counterpoint I want to submit a “bad business” argument. Yes, the pun on the female anatomy seems rather immature but shouldn’t we be passed that? TNA Wrestling has almost been around for a decade and the company has established “TNA Wrestling” as an international wrestling promotion. Changing the name now will only create countless unnecessary business obstacles to overcome.
If TNA Wrestling floated the name change notion around seven or eight years ago I may have supported the idea. However, as I already mentioned the company established themselves on the national level with the TNA Wrestling moniker so transitioning to a new name seems frivolous business wise. Instead of entertaining the iMPACT! Wrestling name change, the company should focus on marketing strategies to increase television ratings, live event attendance, and PPV buyrates.
