Thoughts Heading Into Feb. 3rd's Impact!
January 28th 2011 19:59
TNA Wrestling has built anticipation equivalent to a PPV for February 3rd’s Impact! Jeff Hardy, the former TNA Heavyweight Champion, will get his rematch against Ken Anderson, the man who upset Hardy for the Championship. Anderson spent the past two weeks wrestling with Jeff and Jeff’s brother Matt. Anderson teamed with RVD two weeks ago to tag against the reunited Hardy Boys. Matt Hardy wrestled Anderson on this week’s Impact! with the mission to weaken the current TNA Heavyweight Champion for February 3rd.
Dixie Carter and Hulk Hogan’s legal battle resolution also adds to February 3rd’s Impact anticipation. The revelation of the new “they” adds further hype to the show. Internet rumors speculate a Main Event Mafia reformation as the new “they.” Scott Steiner’s return to this week’s Impact increases this rumor’s credibility. Steiner appeared in a suit and tie, mirroring his Main Event Mafia appearance from a few years ago, to save former Main Event Mafia companion Kurt Angle from Angle’s third Immortal beat-down in two weeks.
Personally, beyond the hype for the February 3rd Impact, I’m excited about TNA’s tournament to determine the #1 Contender for the X-Division Title. TNA has made the X-Division seem like an afterthought in recent months but the tournament has already showcased the special attraction which is the X-Division via this week’s Max/Chris Sabin/Amazing Red three-way bout. TNA has attempted to revive the X-Division in the past but failed. I hope this time will be different. Acquisitions of familiar X-Division faces, like Christopher Daniels and Psicosis, could go a long way in breathing new life into the X-Division. The #1 Contender Tournament hopefully serves as the catalyst for a few returns. Feb. 3rd’s Impact seems like a perfect time for one of these returns too.
TNA Wrestling has done well hyping the February 3rd Impact! I predict next week’s Impact will see an increased rating for this reason. Unfortunately, the Against All Odds PPV 10 days later might suffer because the card will be put together in a hurry.
