Dwayne Johnson, notoriously known as The Rock to professional wrestling fans, made his return to WWE Monday Night Raw last night after a seven year absence. Johnson was revealed as the guest host for Wrestlemania XXVII. The Rock’s appearance has created an enthusiastic buzz amongst professional wrestling fans. The most dedicated fans have spent the past 15 plus hours speculating the possibilities based off The Rock’s comments.
The Rock decreed he would never leave professional wrestling again, leaving fans to ponder if the former multi-time WWE Champion was speaking literally or metaphorically. The returning wrestler’s comments about current WWE Champion The Miz and the beloved John Cena have served as sources for much speculation as well. Perhaps the most anticipated question is; will The Rock’s words lead to an in-ring return?
Beyond the speculation stirred up, The Rock left audiences everywhere feeling good by using most of his old catchphrases. I know I was smiling, pumping my fist up in the air, saying “Yes, yes!” when The Rock told Michael Cole “It doesn’t matter what you think!” The millions (and millions) of The Great One’s fans definitely had pleasing evenings last night.
The Rock’s return only furthers the hype for the February 21st Raw broadcast. Now in addition to fans flocking to their TV screens to see The Undertaker’s return (judging by the last two 2-21-11 videos), people will gather to see the fallout from The Rock’s return. Will The Miz or John Cena offer a rebuttal to The Rock’s words? Will The Rock once again be live on Monday Night Raw? We shall all find out soon enough.
