The Insane Icon!

In recent weeks “The Icon” Sting received a new moniker, “The Insane Icon.” The nickname stems from a current onscreen mental break. Sting cracked while attempting to draw Hulk Hogan’s honest side back out. “The Insane Icon” persona draws many similarities to The Joker character from Batman. This fact creates mixed emotions. Some fans dislike the rip off while others can’t deny Sting’s recent entertainment value.
I’m thoroughly enjoying Sting’s new character myself. The new identity seems to breathe renewed life into Steve Borden, the man behind the face paint. The passion oozing from recent Sting segments outshines most television involving Sting in his Impact Wrestling career. Only Sting’s respect promos which helped establish the Main Event Mafia feud stand on par with “The Insane Icon.”
The only significantly negative aspect to Sting’s new persona revolves around the Sting vs. Hulk Hogan match likely to result. Hulk Hogan showed last year when he teamed with Abyss to wrestle Ric Flair and AJ Styles on the first Monday night Impact broadcast he can’t go anymore. You might argue Sting vs. Hogan provides an elite marquee match for TNA to sell their Bound for Glory PPV around. After all, Sting vs. Hogan generated excellent numbers for WCW… in 1997. As the biggest PPV annually Bound for Glory should celebrate the present and future, not rehash the past.
