Previewing Wrestlemania XXVII- Jerry Lawler vs. Michael Cole
March 6th 2011 22:40
This past week on Monday Night Raw broadcaster Michael Cole accepted WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “the King” Lawler’s Wrestlemania challenge. The feud between these two dates back to December 2010 when Cole’s interference cost Lawler the WWE Title. Tension continued to grow between the two as they broadcasted Raw together the following months.
The tension between Lawler and Cole rose to new heights after “the King” won a PPV WWE Title opportunity for Elimination Chamber. In the build for Jerry’s PPV match against WWE Champion The Miz, the fact the WWE Hall of Famer has never competed at Wrestlemania became a focal point. The WWE did such a good job selling this point I started to wonder if “the King” would actually win the WWE Title and go on to defend the championship at Wrestlemania.
On the Rajah forum I frequent some users speculated Lawler would lose at Elimination Chamber but go ahead and wrestle Michael Cole at Wrestlemania XXVII. I didn’t want to see this because Michael Cole isn’t a wrestler. I’d rather see “the King” compete against a formable opponent on the grandest stage of them all. Perhaps Alex Riley could cost Lawler the WWE Title leading to a Jerry “the King” Lawler vs. Alex Riley Wrestlemania match.
Instead Lawler lost at Elimination Chamber and as others predicted challenged Cole to a Wrestlemania showdown. As happy as I am for “the King” to finally get a Wrestlemania match, I still have no interest in seeing Cole wrestle. In the best case scenario, Lawler vs. Cole will benefit Wrestlemania XXVII by giving the WWE the chance to trot out Good Old Jim Ross to call some matches.
