Thoughts Heading Into Victory Road 2011
March 11th 2011 18:31
This Sunday TNA Wrestling presents Victory Road on PPV. Sting defending his newly won TNA Heavyweight Championship against former champion Jeff Hardy will headline the show. Mr. Anderson and Rob Van Dam will wrestle to determine the next challenger for the title. Other matches include Matt Hardy vs. AJ Styles, Beer Money defending the TNA Tag Team Titles against Ink Inc., Matt Morgan vs. Hernandez in a first blood match, Bully Ray vs. Tommy Dreamer, Ultimate X (Robbie E, Kazarian, Max Buck, and Jeremy Buck), and Angelina Love and Winter defending their TNA Knockouts Tag Team Titles against Sarita and Rosita.
If you feel like you are reading the Victory Road PPV card for the first time, you might actually be doing so. The past two months TNA Wrestling has done a horrid job at promoting their PPVs. The main events have remained unknown until the final television broadcasts before the big shows. Realistically, the final Impact before a PPV should be one last attempt to convince fans they need to buy the PPV. Waiting to the last television broadcast to even announce a PPV main event reeks of bad business.
The ironic part about TNA Wrestling under-promoting Victory Road is every match on the card actually has some build. TNA Wrestling just doesn’t announce the matches. Instead of having Generation Me come out and complain they were cheated out of their X-Division Title opportunities, setting up the Ultimate X match with Kazarian and Robbie E, TNA Wrestling just quietly adds the bout. If TNA Wrestling continues this trend, PPV buyrates will continue to suffer. After all, fans will more likely buy a PPV when you build up the event over weeks and make the show actually feel special.
