New Parkour Movie on the Way

The Boys of Parkour are returning to the Big Screen
Empiremovies.com reported yesterday that a brand new Parkour movie was being made that would have a Hollywood backed budget. In the lead will be Channing Tatum (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, Step Up, Stop-Loss) who will apparently go through intensive training to meet the high physical demands of the role.
The film is untitled at this stage but an imdb.com synopsis under the name Parkour says:
“A New York cop goes undercover in the world of Parkour, AKA free running, in order to track down a gang of sly bank robbers.”
Exciting, graceful and fluid the free-running off shoot known as Parkour is a physical spectacle to observe. Birthed in the French slums with the purpose of getting from point A to point B in the most swift and direct foot route possible, but speed is not the sports only aim.
There is a balletic quality to the gymnastics demanded to conquer obstacles, a form of artistic expression that at times resembles the Martial Arts of Asia. Those who practice the discipline are known as Traceur’s.
Rapidly growing in popularity the sport grew beyond its European beginnings when the opening foot pursuit in the James Bond film Casino Royale became a showcase of Parkour’s potential.
In 2004 Banlieue 13 aka District: B13 became the first ever Parkour driven feature film. In French with English subtitles, the story written by Luc Besson took place in 2010 against the backdrop of the ghettos of Paris and told the story of a terrorist threat that could only be stopped by a street hood and an undercover cop. Featuring intense combat scenes, daring rooftop leaps and the nimble scaling of urban structures the stunt heavy movie dazzles with its flair.
This recent news of another Parkour adventure has my heart pounding at the promise of again being left awestruck at the Traucer’s almost super human abilities.
Here’s a scene from District B13 that shows why you MUST see this film.

Freerunning is seperate, and is the offshoot which is about the aesthetic appeal.
