Mixed Martial Arts – Extreme Combat

The Ultimate Refereed Unarmed Conflict
Who would win in a fight between Bruce Lee and Muhammad Ali? Both lightning quick, both immovable in their primes one using fists alone to defeat a physically smaller man whose entire body was able to be used as a weapon. How would Bruce stand up to Ali’s mighty right hook? How would the “black superman” cope with being attacked with feet, knees and elbows often in combinations of 3 or more blows? Getting carried away there, my point is the answer could well have been found inside the ring of a mixed martial-arts full contact tournament.
Closer to a blood sport than any other televised event, a combination of deadly disciplines are unleashed on fighting opponents. The antithesis to the theatrics of what Wrestling and even pro-boxing has become, this non-choreographed display of technique against technique governed by a minimal of rules is often hard to watch.
Serving as an anti-violence lesson, the true consequences of physical conflict are honestly shown and so audience mimicry is usually kept to the no-contact type.
Still there is something primal awakened when witnessing the no holds barred bouts of a show like Ultimate Fighting and WEF (World Extreme Fighting) . The early days south of the border down Mexico way were vicious and occasionally fatal. A need to draw viewers saw some rudimentary rules introduced (Eg: No gouging, biting or manipulation of digits.) that have seen it become a little less barbaric.
Power and undiluted grit sees a lot of blood and flesh shed to earn the title of every round. Striking and grappling to victory, obviously this type of sport has been around since long before the Gladiators of the Colosseum. Ninjitsu throws down with kickboxing. Muay-Thai against sumo, mixed-martial arts is the most punishing and jaw dropping of all the modern combat leagues.
It usually ends up on the floor, a street brawl one man dominating with heavy attacks, the other being destroyed mercilessly. Its not beautiful or graceful, this is bone smashingly real, fast impact that shows the ugliness of brutality.
