Legacy's Legacy

July 28th 2009 18:32
Randy Orton and Legacy (Ted Dibiase and Cody Rhodes) are the top heels on WWE Monday Night Raw. Orton’s menacing look is enough to make fans everywhere hate him. As WWE Champion Orton doesn’t care how he retains the championship, just as long as he does. Often time Ted Dibiase and Cody Rhodes will aid Orton in championship matches. Having two young, second generation wrestlers in a faction with an established superstar should help cement the credibility of the two younger wrestlers. However, as I have watched Orton and Legacy I wonder if Ted Dibiase and Cody Rhodes’ association with Randy Orton is really helping them.

Legacy has been a part of many handicap matches against guys like Triple H and John Cena in which Legacy has the number advantage. Despite having the number advantage Legacy gets taken to their limits. In some cases Rhodes and Dibiase have lost handicap matches. This makes Legacy look like losers who can’t get the advantage in a fight unless they attack from behind.

Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase should be portrayed as the exact opposite. Their partnership with Randy Orton should elevate them to the next level the same way Randy Orton and Batista were elevated as a part of Evolution earlier in this decade. Cody Rhodes match with Triple H last night was a step in the right direction. My first thought of the Triple H/Cody Rhodes Beat the Clock match was “Great, Triple H is going to waste Rhodes in like two minutes and set a new time to beat”. I was pleasantly surprised to see Rhodes, with some help from Dibiase, take Triple H to the limit.

If the WWE continues strong with Legacy, Rhodes and Dibiase could be the superstars of the next decade. But to do so Legacy has to look like competitors, not Randy Orton’s lackeys. Next week will be a test when Triple H wrestles Legacy in a handicap match. If Triple H is victorious Ted Dibiase and Cody Rhodes’ potential will once again be stunted. Only time will tell the fate of Legacy’s legacy.
