Kurt Angle Arrested
August 19th 2009 14:22
This past Saturday Kurt Angle was arrested by police for drug possession and violating a protection order. Police found HGH (Human Growth Hormone) and a syringe in Angle’s possession. Angle insisted he had a prescription for the drug. On Sunday Kurt Angle was scheduled to defend his TNA Heavyweight Championship on PPV against Sting and Matt Morgan. Kurt Angle posted bail and made it down to Florida for his title defense.
Internet wrestling fans were buzzing about how TNA would handle the Kurt Angle situation. Angle surely would have to be punished. Part of this punishment would include Angle losing the title. Would Sting get another reign as champion or would Matt Morgan pull out the upset? Or would Angle retain, only to have Hernandez come down to cash in his “Feast or Fired” title shot and walk out the PPV as TNA’s first Latino Heavyweight Champion?
To the surprise of everyone none of the above happened. Kurt Angle retained the championship and that was it. This alarms me about TNA. The WWE had a similar situation with Rob Van Dam in 2006. Van Dam, the WWE Champion and ECW Champion at the time, was found with weed. He lost both titles that week and was suspended. TNA needed to take the Heavyweight Title off of Angle at the PPV; not only to punish Angle but to find a better wrestler to represent the company.
Kurt Angle is nothing but a PR disaster waiting to happen. He has been this way since his controversial release from the WWE in 2006. Since then he was been arrested for a DUI (although he was found innocent on that charge) and separated from his wife. Kurt Angle obviously doesn’t have his life together. TNA doesn’t want to punish Angle because he is their biggest draw but that shouldn’t matter. If TNA puts their business as priority over Kurt Angle’s personal well being, they will end up regretting it. The bottom line is TNA needs to send Kurt Angle home so he can get his life together.
