Jeff Hardy's Second Chance?
September 3rd 2011 15:36
This past week on Impact Wrestling a video aired announcing Jeff Hardy will return to TNA next week. This marks Hardy’s first appearance since the Victory Road controversy back on Sunday, March 13th. At Victory Road the main event between Jeff Hardy and Sting only lasted a minute because Hardy proved too impaired to compete. The promotional video hyping Hardy’s return shows Hardy in a sympathetic light, a man who let his addictions get the best of him but now will receive a second chance.
I see a great potential upside to the second chance approach, education on addiction. In society we hear the word addiction but how much do we really know about the disease? Jeff Hardy gets the opportunity to teach us about addiction’s power over an individual. Hardy should come out, admit his problem, and explain how he plans to recover. Jeff’s charisma makes kids look up to him as a role model and this provides the perfect opportunity for Hardy to become one.
Now for Internet wrestling fans, calling this Jeff Hardy’s second chance proves laughable. Hardy already lost his job once in WWE due to substance abuse. WWE allowed Hardy to come back for a second chance but when his contract expired, Hardy left and eventually came to TNA. At the least this marks Hardy’s third chance. Hopefully the third time will end up the last chance “The Charismatic Enigma” needs.
