Impact Thoughts- 'They' Revealed
February 4th 2011 16:46
Last night’s Impact reminded me if you set high expectations you also set yourself up for potential disappointment. Last week I praised TNA Wrestling for creating PPV level hype for Feb. 3rd‘s Impact broadcast. This week I walked away from my television set letdown. The letdown doesn’t stem from who “they” ended up being or the Anderson/Hardy title bout but rather the overall broadcast.
For starters, Impact had too much talking. Did the behind the scenes Angle/Steiner/Crimson spot really need to take place? Or the Eric Young segment? TNA Wrestling did a great job of hyping the “they” storyline heading into the show, so these segments just became redundant promotion.
I don’t know the real life details behind the Jeff Jarrett/Kurt Angle deal with Kurt’s ex but I found the Jeff/Karen segments last night distasteful. Is there any need to involve the Angle and Jarrett children? TNA use to use the slogan, “cross the line.” The company definitely has- the line of decency.
The Team 3D and Samoa Joe/Pope feuds haven’t remotely captured my attention so I won’t waste any space outside of this sentence on them. Moving to the few positives, the X-Division three-way was decent although a step down from last week. Suicide, Brian Kendrick, and Robbie E. battle next week to determine who will join Max and Jeremy Buck in fighting to become X-Division Title #1 Contender. Next week’s three-way will hopefully raise the expectations for X-Division action.
Anderson/Hardy had a solid match and I’m curious to see where the feud goes from here, possibly a rematch at the PPV? Fortune being revealed as “they” was a solid backup plan once the Main Event Mafia deal fell through. The reaction AJ Styles received from the Impact Zone made clear the fans were tired of heel AJ Styles. Fortune’s turn creates many questions too. How will Fortune-Scott Steiner/Crimson/Kurt Angle partnership evolve? Where does this leave Ric Flair? Will Immortal recruit new wrestlers to beef their faction back up?
