WWE announced Tuesday morning Evan Bourne has been suspended for 30 days for his first Wellness Policy violation. The timing couldn’t be worse for the WWE superstar who, along with Air Boom tag team partner Kofi Kingston, has recently become a weekly highlight on WWE broadcasts. In midst of receiving a strong push as Tag Team Champions Air Boom now faces jeopardy. The WWE Universe must wonder what the near future holds for the Tag Team Titles.
I’m guessing the WWE will sideline Evan Bourne with an injury. After the WWE Tag Team Champions lost a competitive non-title bout to Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett on Raw Christian ran down and along with the victors started assaulting Air Boom. Sheamus ran out to chase off the attackers. However, the beat down visibly shook up Bourne enabling WWE to claim Bourne suffered an injury which will keep him out of action.
Given this scenario the WWE faces a few options for the company’s Tag Team Titles. First, Interim Raw GM John Laurinaitis could force Kofi Kingston to surrender the belts which leads to Awesome Truth or Barrett and Rhodes campaigning to become Tag Team Champions. After all, both teams hold recent victories over Air Boom. Or, considering Sheamus ran out to help Kingston and Bourne, “The Celtic Warrior” can step in and serve as Kofi’s temporary tag team partner. They can even wrestle under the moniker “Irish Paradise.”
A final alternative and my personal favorite would see the WWE refocus on the rule where champions have up to 30 days to defend their titles before being forced to vacate the championships. Kofi Kingston continues reassuring the WWE Universe Bourne will be back within 30 days and finally on the 30th day Evan Bourne returns to successfully defend the titles against Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett, who for the past month demand a shot at the Tag Team Titles.
