Drift Racing aka Drifting: An Introduction

Power Sliding Autos
Treating their cars like a prisoner in Gitmo, this irresponsible past time is thrilling to watch despite the sadistic punishment to the autos involved. Tyres, shocks, clutches and brakes all get abused in a way that many cannot afford and often resembles watching a snuff metal geared snuff film.
Basically drifting involves throwing a car sideways and maintaining velocity while sliding around corners. Similar to techniques used in rally driving and motorcross, the difference is this is done on an asphalt surface rather that loose gravel.
Harking back to the 70s and coming out of Japan the sport began as an underground hybrid of illegal street racing moved into demonstrations before evolving into a competitive sport in the 1990s.
Still embraced by hoons on public roads the world over, today there is a level organisation to the high octane stupidity that has continued its momentum towards popularity and acceptance.
Inspiring the early mountain racers around Tokyo, the creation of drifting is credited to Japanese icon Kunimitsu Takahashi who pushed four wheel mobiles beyond their limits on the track.
To actually witness experts performing these stunts live is to have your nostrils filled with burning rubber and ear drums rattled by over revving engines in excess of traditional motorsports.
Expect seekextreme.com to post results for professional competitions in the near future once all the introductions are complete.
