Watching the opening segment of ECW tonight was very heartwarming, at least for me, somebody who is an old school ECW fan. I did not think Tommy Dreamer would walk out of Extreme Rules with the ECW Championship but I was pleasantly surprised. And if anyone deserves praise for everything they have given wrestling the past 20 years, it is Tommy Dreamer.
Tommy Dreamer will never headline Wrestlemania or win the World Heavyweight Title or WWE Championship but Tommy Dreamer will always be one of the top guys in wrestling to me. Tommy Dreamer earned his respect by never walking out of ECW in the 1990s. Even when times were bad Tommy Dreamer stayed loyal to Paul Heyman and to ECW. Tommy Dreamer personified ECW.
Today Tommy Dreamer still is ECW. After being used as an enhancement talent on ECW for the past few years Tommy Dreamer is getting the recognition he deserves. From what I have read online Tommy Dreamer seems to be a genuinely nice guy and he deserves to be in the spotlight as ECW Champion. I only hope Tommy Dreamer title reign as ECW Champion will last till Summerslam where he can have a somewhat high profile match and put Jack Swagger over.
