CM Punk WWE Career Reflection Part II

July 15th 2011 20:08
Sunday, July 17th continues to inch closer. WWE fans know “The Straight Edge Superstar” CM Punk plans to defeat John Cena for the WWE Title Sunday, July 17th at the Money in the Bank PPV in Chicago, Punk’s hometown, and walkout the company WWE Champion. If CM Punk truly intends to leave the WWE, this whole storyline acts as great closure to a distinguished WWE career.

Punk’s First World Title Reign
“The Straight Edge Superstar” shocked wrestling fans everywhere when he opportunistically cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase on Monday Night Raw to win the World Heavyweight Title from Edge. Punk’s first reign as World Heavyweight Champion lasted three months and came to an end when a backstage assault forced Punk to forfeit the title. A highlight from the title reign includes a successful title defense against JBL at Summerslam.

Royal Rumble Sermon
You can confidently argue CM Punk’s WWE career peaked when he formed the Straight Edge Society. While leading the Straight Edge Society, Punk participated in memorable feuds with wrestlers like Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio. Punk’s interview skills helped to make these feuds shine. Perhaps no one promo showcases CM Punk’s microphone skills better than the in-match sermon Punk conducted at the 2010 Royal Rumble. “The Straight Edge Superstar” demonstrates why Internet wrestling fans initially fell in love with the drug free, alcohol free wrestler.

A Raw Shoot

My CM Punk WWE career reflection comes full circle with Punk’s shoot interview from Raw a few weeks ago. From his mannerisms to his actual words “The Straight Edge Superstar” executed the shoot perfectly. No other promo from the past few years can compete with the raw emotion Punk displays. Just like the wrestler himself, the segment stands out from any other in recent time. If Punk does indeed depart after Money in the Bank, the WWE suffers a great loss.
