BFG Series Thoughts
July 19th 2011 15:05
Last month TNA introduced the Bound for Glory (BFG) Series. 12 wrestlers compete pursuing the right to challenge for the Impact Wrestling World Heavyweight Title at Bound for Glory, TNA’s biggest PPV annually. Wins and losses matter in the BFG Series because wrestlers earn points for victories. The top four point earners will wrestle at the September PPV to determine the BFG Series winner and Bound for Glory Heavyweight Title challenger.
So far TNA executes the BFG Series very well. This proves most notable with “The Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe. Joe, currently one of two competitors with no points, feels desperate. His desperation to get on the board actually cost him a match against D-Von a few weeks ago. “The Samoan Submission Machine” tried to make D-Von submit in effort to get 10 points rather than just the seven you get from a pin. In the process Joe gave D-Von the opportunity to pull off an upset.
Overall I like the BFG Series because professional wrestling finally gets treated as a legit competition. Sure, we know wrestling gets scripted and winners are predetermined but why shouldn’t professional wrestling appear real? For the past several years I maintained this stance and I’m excited to see a major wrestling organization put this idea into practice.
