BFG Best: Christian Cage vs. Samoa Joe Bound for Glory 2007
October 13th 2011 17:03
In three days Impact Wrestling presents their biggest annual pay per view Bound for Glory. Over the years Bound for Glory produced some great matches. “BFG Best” posts will revisit these bouts. Selected matches demonstrate solid back story, entertaining action, and sound in-ring psychology.
“The Instant Classic” Christian Cage started feuding with “The Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe to receive attention Cage felt he deserved. At this point the Canadian grappler’s tenure in TNA expanded to almost two years. During this time “The Instant Classic” never lost a match by pin fall or submission. Yet somehow Christian’s accomplishment remained overlooked. On the other hand Samoa Joe gained much fame in TNA for remaining unbeaten for nearly 18 months. “The Samoan Submission Machine” finally lost his first match to Kurt Angle at Genesis 2006. Still his streak remains stuff of Impact Wrestling legend. By calling out Samoa Joe Christian looked to obtain his due praise.
Bound for Glory 2007 really showcases Christian Cage at his best. His performance inside the ring perfectly suited the antagonist role. “The Instant Classic” used the ropes to gain extra momentum on a pin attempt, tried to defeat Samoa Joe at his own game using a submission hold, and hoped for help from the Christian Coalition AJ Styles and Tomko. “The Samoan Submission Machine” succeeded in making the bout greatly memorable through his hard hitting offense.
Overall Christian Cage and Samoa Joe brought the best out of each other at Bound for Glory 2007. For fans only familiar with the Hulk Hogan/Eric Bischoff Impact Wrestling era I highly recommend watching Cage vs. Joe from Bound for Glory to see “The Samoan Submission Machine” exemplify his once highly touted potential .
