If an award was to be given out to a wrestler for “Surprise of the Decade” Ric Flair would be one of the finalists, if not the winner, for the award. After all, who would have thought Ric Flair, somebody who started wrestling in the 1970s, and was in his prime in the 1980s, would be a part of so many memorable matches in the 2000s. Ric Flair versus Triple H inside the steel cage from Taboo Tuesday 2005 is one of these memorable matches.
Honestly, the crimson mask of Ric Flair is a big part of what makes this match memorable. Looking at the match from purely an action standpoint the bout could be considered a little boring. Neither Ric Flair nor Triple H have a large arsenal of wrestling moves but between the bleeding, ring psychology, and storyline the Ric Flair/Triple H Taboo Tuesday 2005 bout goes from mediocre to memorable.
Previously Ric Flair and Triple H were associates as members of Evolution. During this time the two became best friends. However, Triple H eventually grew tired of Ric Flair and looked to put Flair out of the business for good. Triple H even tried to beat Flair with Flair’s own finishing move during the bout. Overall, I think this bout is at the same level as the cage classics Ric Flair wrestled in throughout the 1980s.
