I remember being on the forums at www.rajah.com the day after the Armageddon 2006 PPV. People were calling the four way ladder match between The Hardy Boys, MNM, London & Kendrick, and Dave Taylor & William Regal for the WWE Tag Team Titles the match of the night. I hadn’t ordered the PPV and I couldn’t wait to get the opportunity to see the match for myself. I finally had the opportunity to see the match when I purchased the “Ladder Match” DVD.
The bout was originally scheduled to be an ordinary tag team match between London & Kendrick and Dave Taylor & William Regal. However, before the match started Smackdown general manager Teddy Long came out and announced he was making the match a ladder match and proceeded to add The Hardy Boys and MNM into the title bout. The match was full of action and high risk spots. Joey Mercury even had to leave the match and go to the hospital because his face was busted open.
Overall the match was very entertaining. However, I feel the lack of a storyline going into the bout prevents the match from being considered the very best of the decade. Professional wrestling is about more than high risk moves inside the wrestling ring. An important element in wrestling is the match’s build. If the match does not have a solid build it will not stand the test of time. Michael Cole and JBL did an excellent job of selling the importance of the match but even their brilliant commentary wasn’t enough for me to look past the lacking storyline.
