Thoughts Heading Into Against All Odds
February 12th 2011 19:44
TNA Wrestling presents Against All Odds on PPV this Sunday. The card for the PPV seems rather lackluster. Scott Steiner teams with Beer Money to face Big Rob Terry, Gunner, and Murphy. The match has a solid storyline going in but was announced abruptly, making the bout seem like filler. The Brother Ray/Brother D-Von rivalry has come across as forced. Does anyone really have an interest in seeing these two separated?
The Pope/Joe feud hasn’t been thrilling either. Samoa Joe should be one of TNA Wrestling’s major players, not stuck in some side feud. The Pope had great momentum going as a face and shouldn’t have been turned back into a heel. Rob Van Dam vs. Matt Hardy didn’t get rave reviews last month and will probably face the same fate this month.
Still, Against All Odds shouldn’t be a total loss. The X-Division #1 Contender three way match proves compelling since all the wrestlers involved are heels and two of the wrestlers are tag team partners. The Madison Rayne/Mickie James Last Woman Standing bout has a great backing and causes reason for anticipation.
Kurt Angle vs. Jeff Jarrett would also be a reason for anticipation, except the match has been shrouded in a ridiculous storyline which takes away potential entertainment value. To enjoy wrestling you need to be able to suspend belief. However, asking someone to believe custody of children could be decided by a fight is just too much.
Jeff Hardy and Mr. Anderson headline Against All Odds in a ladder match for the TNA Heavyweight Title. While I’m sure the match itself will be very entertaining, the bout wasn’t set until Thursday so the anticipation factor won’t contain the suspense a PPV Heavyweight Title match should.
