Thoughts on 01/04/10 iMPACT!

This past Monday TNA Wrestling went head to head with WWE Raw and aired a special three hour Impact! TNA Wrestling, in order to compete with the WWE, needed to put on the absolute best show possible. Unfortunately, TNA only delivered a mediocre show. Impact! started horribly with the Steel Asylum match. Fans in the arena described the Steel Asylum perfectly with chants of “This is Bull $hit!” The Knockouts Title match between Tara and ODB was only slightly better. The appearances of Val Venis, Shannon Moore, the Nasty Boys, and Orlando Jordan all seemed rather unnecessary as well.
The Eric Bischoff/Hulk Hogan/Kevin Nash/Scott Hall/Sean Waltman in-ring confrontation was interesting at best. Hulk Hogan blew the first part of the segment when he said he spent all afternoon talking to the TNA roster while Mike Tenay and Taz documented that he had just arrived at the building. The highlights of the show were the Knockouts Tag Team Titles match and the World Heavyweight Title match. Pope/Wolfe and Joe/Abyss were average matches which could have been better if given more time.
Ric Flair’s appearance came as a shock to me. I read the rumors he may appear but I thought nothing of those rumors. I’m interested to see what kind of role Flair will have in TNA. Jeff Hardy, while popular, will probably end up a publicity nightmare for TNA. The man has too many personal issues to be a worthy acquisition.
Overall, I do not like everything TNA is doing but I am interested to see what the immediate future has in store for the organization.
